Early Treatment

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that a child be seen for an initial orthodontic evaluation by the age of 7. Certain kids can benefit greatly from Phase I or Early Treatment while other kids can wait to have one round of orthodontic treatment when they have all their adult teeth at age 12-14. Dr. Milnor will be able to assess appropriate timing for your child and also determine if Phase I orthodontics is indicated or not.

Signs your child may benefit from Phase I Orthodontics

• Crowding
• Early Loss of Primary Teeth
• Narrow Upper Jaw or Cross-bites
• Protrusive Front Teeth
• Jaw Growth Abnormalities

Benefits of Phase I Orthodontics

• Relieve Crowding & Develop More Space for Future Adult Teeth to Erupt
• Reduce Likelihood of Impacted Adult Teeth
• Reduce Likelihood of Extracting Adult Teeth for Phase II Orthodontics
• Help Correct & Guide Jaw Growth
• Reduce Risk of injury to Adult Front Teeth
• Eliminate Harmful Habits Early Like Thumb-sucking
• Improve a Child’s Self Esteem
